In March-June 2026, the AGREE (AI-Driven Agricultural Innovation Network) project team conducted a survey of the Ukrainian agribusiness sector regarding the level of digital competencies among Ukrainian farmers, as well as the sector’s needs and readiness to develop and improve these competencies.

More than 50 domestic agricultural companies from various regions of Ukraine participated in the survey. About a quarter of the respondents represented large agribusinesses, a third represented medium-sized companies, and the rest were small and micro-enterprises.

Respondents identified competencies related to cybersecurity and digital data protection, big data analytics, and improving staff digital literacy as the most important digital competencies at the current stage of Ukraine’s economic development. At the same time, the latter is one of the most developed digital competencies among Ukrainian farmers, whereas the application of digital technologies and Industry 5.0 solutions, digital interaction and collaboration, and the use of AI and automation revealed a significant gap between “needs” and “the level of competency development,” highlighting the need for Ukrainian agribusinesses to enhance their staff’s qualifications in these areas. This need is well recognized. The survey revealed that Ukrainian agricultural companies are interested in and ready to enhance their staff’s digital competencies in these categories.
